Sacramento Dentist Supports U.S. Marines in Fight Against Illiteracy and Poverty

Dr. Hoang TruongDr. Hoang Truong has teamed up with the U.S. Marines in an effort to fight poverty and illiteracy in the United States through the U.S. Marine Toys for Tots Literacy Program by donating $1000. Currently, more than 16 million children in the U.S. currently live below the poverty level.

Dr. Truong recently attended the Toys for Tots Literacy Program Reception in Florida, to honor the U.S. Military and the U.S. Marines. As a highlight of the event, the U.S. Marines Toys for Tots Program and the Toys for Tots Literacy Program were also recognized.

“The Toys for Tots Literacy Program is a call to action that all Americans need to know about,” Dr. Hoang Truong said. “I am happy to assist the Marines as they fight poverty and illiteracy.”

At the special event, Dr. Truong learned that in 1947, after WWII, Toys for Tots began and a small group of Marine Reservist collected and distributed over 5,000 Toys to needy children. In 2008, the Toys for Tots Literacy Program was launched  and has given disadvantaged children an opportunity to compete academically and succeed in life.

During the event, Captain Joseph Draeger of the U.S. Marines said, “Through the gift of a book we can provide the tools needed to help break the cycle of poverty, one child at a time.” Dr. Hoang Truong and many of her fellow colleagues took the initiative to support the program and helped raise more than ten thousand dollars for disadvantaged families in the U.S.

Dr. Hoang Truong was also quoted as saying that she fully supports this program. “This campaign definitely helps many needy children and I recommend that the Sacramento community join me in helping make a difference in these children’s lives  by supporting the Toys for Tots Literacy Program.”
